"Chief of Calligraphers" Hasan Çelebi was sent on his final journey

The body of master calligrapher Hasan Çelebi, who was considered one of the masters of the art of calligraphy and was accepted as the "Chief of Calligraphers", was brought to the Büyük Çamlıca Mosque. Despite the cold weather, the funeral ceremony held for master calligrapher Çelebi was attended by the master artist's students and many fans. Also attending the funeral were Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu, former Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the İlim Yayma Foundation Bilal Erdoğan, Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım, President of the Turkish Manuscripts Institution (TYEK) Coşkun Yılmaz, Istanbul Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Hüseyin Keskin, former Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and Halil Necipoğlu, as well as many people from the worlds of politics and the arts who prayed for Çelebi.
The funeral prayer of Çelebi, who was accepted as the "Chief of Calligraphers", who left his mark on many mosques around the world and passed away at the age of 88, was performed by Istanbul Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş. Following the funeral prayer, Hasan Çelebi's body was sent off from the mosque with prayers and takbirs and was buried in the Calligraphers' Table in Karacahmet Cemetery.
WHO IS HASAN ÇELEBİ, THE GREAT MASTER OF CALLIGRAPHY?
The living great master of calligraphy, Hasan Çelebi, was born in 1937 in İnci village of Oltu district of Erzurum. Çelebi took lessons from the most famous masters of the period in order to improve himself in the art of calligraphy, which he started at the age of 24. Hasan Çelebi, who received his authorization after practicing Thuluth-Nasih with calligrapher Hamid Aytaç and Ta'lik-rik with Kemal Batanay, has exceeded the borders of the country with his mastery, mosque inscriptions, private calligraphy collection and exhibitions. Hasan Çelebi, who has nearly 100 authorized students in different geographies of the world, became the calligrapher who trained the most students after Hamid Aytaç. Hasan Çelebi, who never put down his pen for nearly 60 years in his artistic life, made his last major projects for the Great Çamlıca Mosque and the Sri Sendayan Mosque in Malaysia.
